Spring is FINALLY Here (Almost)!

I've been so sick of our weather going back and forth between 75 degrees and 50 degrees.  It's been such a tease, but I can't wait for spring to finally come to good 'ole SC.  It's about time!  I'm not much of a cold weather girl.  And what better way to get ready for the warmer weather than with some new spring shoes. :)

Like my love of books, Kate has taken after me with a love of shoes.  The girl is obsessed.  Seriously.  I took her into Houser Shoes not too long ago and she had a blast.  She would walk up and down the aisles, make her shoe selection, and then hold them up to me and say "Theeese. On." We were both having fun until it was time to go.  She made the biggest scene because she did not want to take off her shoes and leave the "oosh" store.

However, while we were in Houser Shoes, I found some really cute spring/summer shoes for Kate.  These were actually the shoes that caused the scene when it was time to go. Obviously, Kate really liked them too!
I'm anti-laces when it comes to shoes for Kate. These are great because they're easy to put on, and not to mention cute!  Perfect for an on-the-go toddler.

Of course, I needed some new spring shoes too, right?  So now I'm wearing these cute lace shoes by Bobs!  I love them!
They are the perfect spring/summer shoe.  Not too dressy, but not too casual either. They're perfect for shorts, skirts, or jeans.  They come in a variety of colors (below), but I chose black just to hide the inevitable dirt. And of course, they're super comfy.

Now that our feet are ready, I think it's time for the weather to get above 70 degrees and stay there... just so long as it doesn't get into the 90's.  I'm not pick at all, am I?

Girl Day at the Children's Museum

With busy season over, I took last Friday off from work and my mom and sister came over for a "girl day" with Kate. We intended to take her to the zoo but it was rainy and yucky so we ended up at the Children's Museum.  I wasn't sure how much Kate would enjoy since she's still pretty young, but she had a blast.  So did we!  I know when she is a little older, she'll love it even more.  It was definitely a great rainy afternoon treat.  I'll let the pictures do the talking, with just a little bit of commentary by me. :)

We started off in the children's grocery store.  I think Kate was a little confused that it wasn't REAL food.  I kind of expected her to try to take a bite out of one of the apples.

And then we went downstairs to the water section.  Some of those kids were getting INTO it and splashing water everywhere.  Since I'd totally forgotten about this section and failed to bring a change of clothes, we didn't stay down here very long.

Next stop was the music room.  There were lots of things to bang on and play with in this room.  It was pretty fun even for the grown ups! :)

We made our way back upstairs to the "farm" area.  There was a tree with a big slide and Kate had so much fun going down it, first by herself, and then with Aunt Kristi and with me.

One of the things that I liked the most was the GIGANTIC Lite-Brite board.

By the time we made our way to the race car, we were all ready to sit down. The museum is 3 stories tall and FILLED with so much fun.  You could spend an entire day there.  We stayed about 3 hours and skipped over a lot of stuff that was above Kate's level.  If you have a Children's Museum anywhere near you, go check it out.  And if you live anywhere in Upstate SC, I can attest that the one in Greenville is pretty great.

Sidewalk Artist

I'm so glad Kate likes being outside, because we do too.  We have finally started using our summer clothes, and pulled out the sandals. And we've gotten to use a few of the outdoor things from Kate's Easter basket- chalk and bubbles! Of course, Kate has also enjoyed playing with bossing around the boys.  Now that she's a little bigger, she's gotten more confident and loves to chase them around the yard with arms stretched out yelling "Hug! Hug!"

Cooper loved watching Kate play with the chalk.  Really, he was just waiting for an opportunity to sneak in and steal a piece of her chalk.  Before I knew it, he was trying to walk away with a yellow stick of chalk sticking out of his mouth like a cigarette.  He didn't make it far.

Flower Pot Makeover

It seems like every year at the end of busy season, I get the urge to plant or do something in our yard.  A few years ago I shoveled a trailer full of mulch around our entire house, and then I couldn't move for two days.  This year I ended up with lots of flowers- both for potting and for planting in the ground.  I filled up the two pots outside of our garage doors, and I planted some perennials in the ground of one of our big mulch beds.  I had one last pot to fill, but the flower pot itself was looking kind of rough.

It is one of those really big flower pots pots, and since they aren't cheap, I didn't really want to buy a replacement.  So before I filled it with some pretty flowers, I decided it needed a mini-makeover.  And by mini-makeover, I mean the easiest thing you will ever do.  All I did was scoop out about 1/3 of the potting soil and then wipe down the entire pot to remove any dirt on the outside.  Then I put two light coats of spray paint on the entire pot to clean it up a bit.  All finished!  And it looks much better!

Here it is all filled up with some new plants.

This was too easy to really be called a DIY project, but hopefully I'll remember to do this in the future.  I think it would also be fun to use some bright colors of spray paint on some smaller sized flower pots.

A Visit to Lake Greenwood

Sorry for the picture overload.  I took a ton, and I like them, so I'm sharing. :)

On Sunday after church, we made a spur-of-the-moment decision to drive to the lake to visit my parents.  It's a little over an hour away, and we hit the road around 2:30ish.  We normally get down there for visits fairly frequently, but because of busy season, I hadn't been home since Christmas.  It was a quick trip but a fun one. Kate loved seeing her Gigi and Papa Rick.

My dad caught tons of fish in the past week, and just had to take Kate down to the dock for her first fishing experience.  She liked looking in the water and holding the fishing rod, but that was pretty much all she was impressed with.

We were only down on the dock for less than 30 minutes before a rain shower came through, but my dad managed to catch a couple before we went inside.

Kate was less than thrilled with the fish.  This was about as close as she got.

See how she's on her tippy toes, and leaned back as far as she can get?  She did not want the fish anywhere near her.

I think we have our work cut out for us if we want to make Kate into a fisher-woman.  :)

Weekend Recap

Definitely a good weekend.  I feel like we got a lot done around the house, I sold some furniture on craigslist (yay!), got flowers in the two big planters on either side of our driveway, and we even got in a quick visit with my parent's at the lake.

On Saturday we had beautiful weather.  If it could be like this year-round, Kevin and I would be in heaven.  Kate had a blast being outside almost all weekend long.  She loves it so much and cries when we make her come inside.

After church on Sunday we walked around the yard for a long time.  Our azaleas are blooming and everything is so green.  I love this time of year (minus the pollen).  Kate gave the boys a treat.  She's learned their commands (sit, stay, out, release) and tries to boss them around.  They either can't understand what she is saying, or know that she really can't do anything to them, so they don't listen.  She loves them though.

This is what she looks like ALL the time now.  One speed- fast forward.  There is no walking in her world.

I just realized exactly how many pictures I took this weekend, so I'll save some of the others for tomorrow's post.  All in all, it was a great weekend. And, today is April 15th so now I'll actually have time for taking more pictures and blogging. :) Yay!
